Pure Country 2006 Happenings
2006 was a very exciting year for Pure Country Kennel. Not only did we grow in number by teaming up with Trent and Trey but we also experienced the thrill of winning and that feeling never gets old. We also made a few crosses that we feel will have a very positive impact on our kennel. We then were able through the purchasing of Dual Grand Champion Cedar Run Jet Latch to construct a future 3
generation pedigree that will consist 100% of hounds owned and hunted here at Pure Country Kennel with 75% of them being born and raised here. It is a 7 or 8 year project at the least but we are looking forward to the challenge. I hope you enjoy a look at our very eventful but prosperous year.
Things got started right away with a trip to
Albany Georgia and the Winner Classic in January. I was handling
Late Nite Awesome Elwood (Woody) a 2 year old male while Trent was
hunting NTCH Stanleys Late Nite Hobo, another outstanding 2 year
old male both sired by Bubba. Woody came away with a 10th place
finish on Saturday night and Hobo chalked up 2 plus point cast wins
to take a lead (tie) in the Black Gold Triple Crown.
Hobo then came home to Ohio and went on a serious winning
streak. He blazed through his 5 wins to Grand Nite Champion and
finished out with a bang: a 950+ CW at Kokomo Indiana's RQE which
placed him first overall. He won all of his Nite Champion casts
with the leaves off and won 3 on tie breakers. All tie breakers were
won because he had ZERO minus. Trent then went to Walker Days and
hunted Hobo in the Grand Nite class and picked up a Cast Win. Hobo
also picked up a 425+ CW at Autumn Oaks which narrowed down the
Triple Crown field to just 4 hounds. He then went on to the Zones and
picked up a Friday night CW and that left just him and the Jet 8 dog tied
heading into Saturday night. Hobo came up short of a CW on Saturday
which left him in 2nd place for the Triple Crown. We are very proud of this
accomplishment as Hobo was just a 2 year old and we never had a pre
determined guide or anything of that nature. We just entered him
like everyone else and took the draw we had coming to us!
Woody finished to NTCH by dominating a RQE cast at
Cardington Ohio as well and qualified for the World Hunt. I then
made a tough decision to sell Woody. He was a outstanding hound but
as a bawlin', squallin', screamin', chewin', tree dog and I didn't
feel he would attract enough attention as a stud dog and that was my
quest at the time; finding something to replace Bubba. So I sold
him to Neal Fleury from upstate New York. Neal picked him up one
weekend and scored 650+ the next weekend and put a win towards Grand
on him. While talking to Neal one day I offered to hunt Woody for
him at the Zones because Neal wasn't planning on taking him. We
worked out a deal and some fellow New Yorkers brought Woody down on
their way to the PKC Labor Day Classic. I hunted him both nights at
the Zones and I would have to say that it was probably the most
dominating display of coon treeing that I have ever witnessed. We
scored on a total of 13 coon in 2 nights and Woody treed 7 ALONE and
the other 6 dogs combined treed the other 6. That gave Woody
another NTCH win and we were off to the Finals. We hunted Thursday
night and felt we were in control of the cast with about 20 minutes
to hunt as Woody was deep and lonely. Unfortunately he was in a
creek bank and I needed to see the coon to win. So we got beat and
Woody headed back up to NY where he won the next hunt he was entered
in as well. I believe he has 3 wins still at this time.
My all time favorite female is "Old Queen" as she has come
to be known as. You can check her out on the females page. I sold
Queen as a young dog with 2 wins because the money was right and was
fortunate enough to be able to buy her back after 4 very regretful
years. After Bubba's accident and missing her during one heat cycle
I finally got her bred to Bubba in 2006. We lost quite a few pups
and only ended up with 2 females. Here is the one I have kept and
she is part of our future breeding program. She is out of the best
I have been with, sire and dam.
Another hound that we are extremely excited about is our
young male NTCH CH Bubba Shot The Juke Box. Shot is out of Bubba
and a female out of Old Queen and World Champion X JR. Last year at
Autumn Oaks was the first hunt I hunted him in. At 16 months old
hunting against 3 and 4 year olds he looked real good, split treeing
3 times and winning the cast. He ended up making NTCH in a few
short weeks and won 3 Best of Shows as well. We feel he will
definitely make a impact in the stud pen. Time will tell.
I have always been partial to the Kansas Dancer bred hounds
as Bubba is a Grandson of his, as was the Late Nite Kansas Cody dog
that I won 1st place with at AO. Last summer I got my eye on
another grandson of Kansas Dancer named Dual Grand Champion Cedar
Run Jet Latch. (You can check him out on the Stud Page) I called up
his owner at the time Lowell Boreen of Wisconsin and asked him to
price him. He did after a few days and Trey Thurman and myself
bought him. I picked him up in Missouri where he was being studded
at Mark Ketchersides. We feel he will cross good on Bubba's
daughters. Here he is on the wood.
Here is a sneak preview of our what our 100% 3 Generation
Pure Country Kennel pedigree will look like. This is actually a 4
generation Pedigree to show what is behind our 3 generations as well. The
hounds in red are the 4th generation and we actually have owned
and or hunted several of them as well.

We have fed Black Gold for several years now and just
made the jump this past year to become an official dealer of Black Gold dog
food. Our hounds do very well on it, from our pups to our older dogs as
well as the ones getting hunted very hard. There are several different
blends to choose from and no doubt we have one that will meet the demands of
your hound.
